Dairy products and health risk

In this article we will see what really happens in our body from dairy products and the problems that are caused when we consume dairy products, problems dairy industry avoids mentioning.

Dairy products or milk products are a type of food produced from or containing milk, mainly from cow, although the latest fad is now milk from other animals, such as goat, sheep, horse, camel, buffalo, etc. [1].

Although milk is considered as healthy by many people, and that it helps bones, this is not the case, because milk does NOT make any good for your bones or your body. You should be aware that osteoporosis is NOT caused by calcium deficiency but by excessive consumption of animal protein [2, 3].

The milk and the calcium it contains is half the truth, since, in the process of its pasteurization, the majority of vitamins, proteins, and enzymes are destroyed [4]. And not even raw milk is better either.

For milk to be produced, cows (and other mammals) should be fertilized first. If the animal DOES NOT give birth, milk will not be produced. When the animal gives birth, the farmers remove the newborn so it will not drink the milk, and then they put the mother on milking machines.

When the animal refuses to mate, then the specialists undertake the artificial fertilization of the animal, by promoting the male sperm that they have already collected. Note that cow’s milk is for the calf and is enriched with the necessary ingredients that will lead to its rapid growth. No other mammal consumes milk from a point after their growth.

At first, let’s look at the consumption of cheese in America, per person, and see the quantity in 1970 and how its consumption has been raised in recent years. Of course, fast food chains helped on this. The same applies to milk [5].

Now let’s look at the development of diabetes in America at the same time.

Dairy products contain no fiber but they are full of saturated fat and many calories. One gram of carbohydrate contains 4 calories and is used instantly by the body for its needs (brain, cells, wound repair, etc.) without being easily stored because it’s the body’s main fuel.

On the other hand, one gram of fat contains 9 calories and is not used directly by the body but is stored for later use [6].

As an example, let’s look at the amount of fat in some foods [7]:
Chicken: 7g of fat per 100g of product
Pork: 19g of fat per 150g of product
Edam Cheese: 23g of fat per 25g of product
Parmesan cheese: 30g of fat per 10g of product
Salmon: 8g of fat per 100g of product
Boiled egg: 11g of fat per 55g of product
Beans: 1g of fat per 100g of product

Animal products, particularly dairy, contains large amounts of fat, unlike plant products. Animal products are therefore stored more easily as fat, because it is already fat, and this creates many problems in the body, in addition to weight gain.

Animal fat reduces metabolism

You may have read or heard from many people that you have to reduce carbohydrates and increase animal products to lose weight and increase your metabolism but this is a wrong advice [8].

In fact, if you stop consuming dairy products, you can see a significant reduction in your body fat [9, 10]. This is because the animal fat remains in the cells, making them no longer listen to the insulin (insulin resistance), so it is stored as fat, and don’t forget that the hormones contained in milk are not good to the body either [11].

Cheese contains a lot of salt

In the process of converting milk into cheese, some fungi are being developed in order for the cheese to be hardened. To stop the continuous growth of these fungi, when the cheese is ready, they put excessive quantities of salt. Excessive salt consumption can lead to weight gain (due to fluid retention), high blood pressure, stomach cancer, osteoporosis, etc. [12]. As a maximum safe quantity, is the 2300mg sodium per day, with 1500mg to be considered as the ideal amount [13].

Let’s see how much sodium some of the cheeses have.
Rockefeller: 1809mg sodium per 100g
Parmesan: 1529mg sodium per 100g
Feta: 1116mg sodium per 100g
Edam: 965mg sodium per 100g
Gouda: 819mg sodium per 100g
Cheddar: 621mg sodium per 100g
Mozzarella: 619mg sodium per 100g

Dairy products cause diabetes

As with meat, dairy products also cause insulin resistance and diabetes. Research has shown that substitution of dairy products with monounsaturated fat (avocado, nuts, olives) has greatly improved insulin sensitivity in men and women [14].

Compared to those who followed a vegan diet, those who consumed animal products had a higher risk of developing diabetes [15]. Informally, a low-fat diet was the one that could restore sensitivity to insulin and glucose metabolism [16].

Dairy products contains hormones

Farms are using special growth hormones in order the animal could grow quickly enough and produce more milk. Those hormones are dangerous for humans [17, 18].

But even if some of the hormones are not used for the rapid growth of the animal, hormones continue to exist, because when the cow is fertilized many times a year, it produces higher amounts of hormones in its milk [19].

These hormones, whether they come from organic milk or not, causes cancer. In fact, according to a Harvard study, milk and cheese caused testicular cancer in men 20-39 years old, and they found that it can also produce breast, prostate and colon cancer [20]. Also, casein, the milk protein, has been associated with cancer [21].

The main hormone found in milk is estrogen and this is because when mammals are fertilized, more estrogen is secreted to prevent milk secretion before birth [22]. Estrogen have been associated with many problems in men and women, such as prostate cancer [23, 24, 25], decreased testosterone in men, and may affect the sexual development of children [26].

Milk, rheumatoid arthritis and joint pain

Personally, I was drinking occasionally only goat’s milk. When I was drinking milk for 5 days in a row, I noticed that I had severe pain in the joints, which disappeared only when I stopped consuming it for a few days.

With a quick search on the Internet, I found that is a common problem that others have noticed too [27, 28]. So if you have pain in your joints or bones, it may be caused by products that you think are good for your bones.

This is not accidental, since milk has been linked to rheumatoid arthritis. In related research, they found that by fasting and at the same time follow a low-fat vegan diet can greatly improve the symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis [29, 30].

Milk, asthma and profit industry

If you search on Google for the words “asthma dairy”, the first result is from a “non-profit” organization in Australia, among others [31]:

The National Asthma Council Australia also does not routinely recommend avoiding dairy foods as a way to manage asthma. Unfortunately, most Australians are missing out on the health benefits that come from consuming milk, cheese, and yogurt as they don’t include enough dairy foods in their diet.

And I put the non-profit in quotation marks because it’s interesting to see the sponsors of the organization, where among them are some pharmaceutical companies and the Australian dairy industry [32]. One would say that they would not want to upset their sponsors by saying things contrary to the interests of them since they all earning as much as you buy their products. This is a small proof that you should not always accept what is written on many “medical” sites without further investigation from your side.

The truth is different though. For example, in one study [33], they found that even a small 8-week absence from dairy products (and eggs) reduced asthmatic symptoms and improved lung function in children with asthma. Similarly, they found that when they consumed whole milk, the symptoms worsened [34]. It is likely to be due to an allergy associated with estrogen [35]. You can also find reports from people who stopped the dairy products and they saw improved [36].

Finally, dairy products such as milk, cheese, cream and butter have been found to have Phthalates [37], chemicals used to soften plastics and make them more flexible (they are also known as plasticizers) and have anti-androgenic and estrogenic effects on the male’s body. Read more in this article.

Higher dairy intake lowers semen quality

According to Harvard, young men with a high daily intake of full-fat dairy may be risking their chance of having children [38], due to milk’s negative impact on sperm quality. This must be connected with the female hormones found in milk (read above).

Almond Milk

An alternative suggestion for those who can not live without milk is the almond milk, which you can make it easier. There are dozens of videos on the internet showing the process and below I chose one of them.
